Yesterday I went on a mud hike to the west segment of Reach 11. There was some mud left but not as much as I had hoped. I blame the long drought rather than the weak solstice sunshine. The thirsty ground wanted all of Friday's rain.

I laundered my muddy overalls, changed into actual trousers and had a day of comparative rest. Having received as a Christmas gift from my brother a gift card to Bass Pro, I decided to spend it this evening at their location in northwestern Mesa. I ended up buying some wool boot socks that I thought might stand the mud better than the cotton socks I usually wear and a new cap.

As I ascended the stairwell to the second floor of the store, I noticed a strange sign on the side of the stairwell. I had been up that stairwell several times before, and I knew there was a decorative waterfall and a decorative pond there, but I hadn't seen this sign before.

It read:

NO SWIMMING
NO DIVING
NO KIDDING
VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED

I guess since my last visit some people like us had been there.
