Dunk tank? HAZING? NEED ADVICE!

Hi guys I'm new to posting here. About me real quick-I'm Ben, I'm 16 and I sometimes like swimming in my clothes. I just like swimming in general. I'm on my high school swim team and a club team, I'm a lifeguard and I just like spending time in the water. I'm also in boy scouts. I had a weird thing happen and I need some advice. Last summer my boy scout troop was in a 4th of july parade in our city. After the parade there was a little street fair thing with carnival games and stuff. There was a dunk tank there. I was never in a dunk tank before and it wasn't really something that I thought I really cared about doing. Mostly I liked being in the pool or lake so I didn't really ever think about being in a dunk tank. But after the parade our scoutmaster came up to us and said that the people running the carnival talked to him and said there was some issue with the schedule about who was supposed to be in the dunk tank and they asked if we could help them out for an hour or so. Our scoutmaster said he knew that we didn't show up with swim stuff or extra clothes so he didn't think any of us would volunteer to go in the dunk tank and he didn't want to pressure us, but he figured he'd ask. I actually did have my duffle with extra clothes and a towel in my car so I said sure why not, I'll go ahead and volunteer to take a turn. My friend Patrick also said he'd do it (Even though he didn't have extra clothes with him but it wasn't a big deal.) He and I took turns going in teh dunk tank for probably an hour or so before other people showed up to take over. It was fun. Some of my friends got a laugh out of dunking me. There was also a lot of little kids who just thought it was funny dunking me in and I made sure to make funny faces and wave at them through the window in the tank when they dunked me in. I was in my scout uniform shirt and shorts, patrick was in his uniform shirt and scout pants. Honestly I wish the water was a little colder. I also wouldn't have minded if they made it easier for the kids to dunk me, I only got dunked maybe like 6 or maybe 8 times total. But whatever, it was fun and I didn't mind helping out.

So last night our troop is having our meeting to plan out our events for the next year. I had an idea-why don't we officially sign up to run the dunk tank for a couple hours. We could make some fundraising money and it would be good PR for us. I checked with some of my friends. I was in, my friend patrick was in, and 4 or 5 other guys all said they'd be down for it too. Now I totally get that some people wouldn't want to be in a dunk tank for one reason for another and I totally get that and I wouldn't want to try to force them to or anything. But I figured with just 4 or 5 volunteers we could easily run the thing for at least an hour or two. And heck I'd just do it myself if literally no one else wanted to. But a bunch of people said they'd be cool with it so at the meeting yesterday I brought it up as a suggestion. And to my surprise the scoutmaster looked uncomfortable and said that we weren't allowed to, it wasn't an appropriate activity. I asked him what he meant and he said it was too much like hazing so it wasn't allowed.

Hazing? Really? I mean I understand it would be a problem if we forcing people to get soaked if they didn't want to. Or if we were tricking the new kids into doing it or something. But I mean I'm 16, I know what I'm getting into, and I wanted to VOLUNTEER to do it because I thought it would be funny. And my friends thought the same thing. So how the heck is this HAZING?

Anyone have any ideas on how I can convince them that this is OK and we should be allowed to do it?
