Last week, something both embarrassing and surprisingly cool happened: I forgot to pack my swimsuit because it was still hanging on the clothesline at home. I didn’t realize until it was too late, right before swim class in the 3rd and 4th periods. Our swimming teacher is strict—he doesn’t accept any excuses and insists everyone participate, even if they forgot their swim gear. He suggested I just swim in my underwear, but since mine are white and would go completely see-through in the water, that was not an option for me.

After thinking for a moment, I came up with the idea of swimming in my jeans. The swim teacher just shrugged and said it was fine. So, I jumped in, jeans and all. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed it! The jeans felt heavy, and it was a whole different experience. The fabric clung to my legs, and the water felt colder than usual. It was a bit tougher to swim, but that only made it more interesting. Some of my friends were a bit surprised at first, but after a moment, it wasn’t a big deal.

Back in the classroom, though, I had to sit in my cold, damp jeans, and I could barely sit still. It was definitely uncomfortable, but it felt worth it because swimming in jeans was such a unique and fun experience. I secretly thought to myself that maybe I’d “forget” my swimsuit again sometime.

Today, we had swim class again, and as planned, I had “forgotten” my swimsuit. And this time, I wasn’t the only one! Apparently, my experience last week had left an impression, because two other boys had also “forgotten” their swimsuits. One of them swam in sweatpants, and the other, like I did last week, wore his jeans. It’s almost like we’ve started a new, secret tradition! Swimming in everyday clothes feels a bit rebellious, and I really enjoyed it again today.

Even though swimming this way is a lot of fun, of course, it’s a bit uncomfortable to spend the rest of the day in wet clothes. But honestly, it’s worth it—I’m excited to see how long our new “trend” will last!
