Actually now that you mention it, swimming while wearing something longer than your legs/ankles does sound somewhat interesting. It would make it difficult to stand up, which sounds... fun if you're capable of keeping yourself above the water and dangerous if you're not.
Have you seen those "mermaid tails"? Ever thought about swimming in one?
