Hot Weather Advise in US

Many news reports of record-setting heat around the country this week are talking to so-called "experts" on how to stay cool and protect yourself from the heat. However they are neglecting the single most obvious point that all of us here know - Get your clothes wet if you're working or playing outside! Have any of you heard that suggestion in any media reports?
Back when I had the time and health to more actively participate in this wet "hobby", (for lack of a better term), I would often spend several hours hiking in 100+ degree heat, in and out of whatever water I was near, never suffering any ill effects from heat. As a teen I would often mow our lawn in a wet t-shirt when everyone else was hiding indoors behind air conditioning.
Yes, drink lots of water, but wet clothes seem like the most common sense protection against heat and sunburn.
