the heat might have affected his thinking. i recall once being treated for heat exhaustion - we had an event going on by the river that i was working at as a diver - the heat index was 107. my body temp was 104. much as i love the water, i was very clearheaded, and remember telling medical do not put me in the river, it is too cold. i had stuck my hand in earlier and remember how cold it was (the river temp was 75, which normally i find very comfortable). they used fans, wet sheets, water, gatorade, and iv's and got my temp down finally.
