Glossary

When your swimwear differs from shorts for men or bikini for women, things can become quite interesting. Here we define and explain some issues about swimming in clothes.

Phat Dippin(g)

Skinny Dipping = swimming naked.
Phat Dipping = Swimming with all your clothes on.
Dress up and dive in, that's phat dippin!!

Swimming in Clothes or Swimming Fully Clothed

There have been ongoing discussions on the net about this difference. This wetsite is about getting wet in clothes, whatever you like. But we feel we should clarify it anyway.

Swimming in clothes could mean any clothes, except regular swimwear. The minimum outfit should be just a T-shirt or jeans. Most modest swimwear falls into this category.

Swimming in clothes is a popular leisure activity in many regions of the world. It is easy to do if you choose lightweight clothes, feels great and healthy.

Swimming fully clothed includes socks and shoes, long pants, layers of long sleeve tops or jackets, or whatever you normally wear. For keen swimmers it is also a powerful fitness training known as resistance swimming to build strength and endurance.

Most people discover getting wet fully clothed by accident, like in the rain or when they fall into the water. Others join their friends for a spontaneous swim fully clothed when they didn't bring any swimwear and then find that it feels good and is huge fun. That's when it becomes a new hobby.

Anoraks and Ponchos

Hooded pullover type water garments with a short zip or no zip. Most have a front pocket to keep bits in when you go swimming. In Thailand you can get lightweight anoraks that are made of a silky soft fabric which is not waterproof, but dries very quickly. People put them on for sun protection when they go for a swim. Ponchos are just oversized anoraks.

Baptising

  1. Getting dunked in clothes for the first time. Celebrate this beautiful occasion with friends.

  2. Soaking new clothes for the first time, preferably with you in them, is always exciting fun. Enjoy!

  3. Baptisms are joyous occasions. Many churches run baptisms during or after regular services. This then begs the question, do you wear your Sunday best?

  4. Even if you're not religious, new members to your swim team should be welcomed by immersing them into your pool. They must be fully clothed and/or wear a poncho or baptism robe.

Baptism Robes

Baptism robes combine the beauty and drape of the finest gowns, but are designed to be worn in the water. Made of polyester or nylon with a soft texture, they are similar in looks to choir robes.

These gowns and robes will allow for full or partial immersion in baptism waters. They have long sleeves and weights in the hem to keep them from floating up as you immerse yourself in the pool.

The fabric is typically heavier and offers more opacity than some other fabrics for when the robe gets wet. When you come out of the water, the heavier fabric provides a beautiful drape and does not cling as much.

The less expensive alternatives are white Graduation Gowns made of thinner fabric. They tend to become a bit see-through when wet, which adds to the fun and excitement. The thin fabric feels softer in the water, good for any aquatic meditation.

After enjoying a long bath, your quick drying robe can be easily washed and rinsed while your wear it under the shower. Then hang it up to drip dry for the ultimate in convenience and ease of care.

Cagoule

A hooded pullover type garment with no zips, because zips can get stuck because of mud or sea salt. Cagoules are therefore well suited for rough or dirty terrain. They don't hold much water. Just rinse and go. Cags can be short or long, down to the knees. Some cags have a velcro fastener in front of the collar, most have a string in the hood.

Canoeing Cag

Canoeing cags usually don't have a hood, unless they are for seakayaking or expeditions.

Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O)

A colourless and odourless chemical compound, also referred to by some as Dihydrogen Oxide, Hydrogen Hydroxide, Hydronium Hydroxide, or simply Hydric acid. Its basis is the unstable radical Hydroxide, the components of which are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol. A friend is someone we turn to when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives with beauty, joy, and grace, and makes the world we live in a wetter and happier place.

Foam Parties and Pool Parties

These are very exciting fun events. You're expected to dress up and wear your clothes in the foam or water. Of course you will get soaking wet, but you rarely don't know when, how much, or for how long. This suspense adds to the excitement.

The thrill begins when you pick your party clothes. Maybe you can take several outfits, so you can change into dry clothes a few times. Then see how long you can stay dry before someone splashes you or throws you into the pool. Make sure you always look good in wet clothes.

Meditation

In today’s life we experience stressful situations on a daily basis. Meditating in water dressed in soft clothes helps reduce stress. We do this every day for good health.

Loose fitting, lightweight clothes have a soothing effect when relaxing in the water. Their gentle touch on the skin just feels so good, a great comfort and stress relief.

It is important you stay warm while mediating, as you wan't move much. We recommed you wear an oversize long sleev top, loose yoga pants, and a baptism robe, poncho, or large anorak on top. A hood keeps you warm as you lose most heat from your head.

You probably bathe or shower in your clothes. Meditation is like a bath or shower for your mind, giving it a break while you float in your clothes. This supports relaxation and recovery, which leads to a more balanced lifestyle. If you haven't done this yet, you're simply missing out big time.

WAM - Wet And Messy

Wet involves getting soaked in water. Messy involves mud or gunge or food, etc. This can get quite slippery. We're not sure yet where slippery foam and soap fits in. Are foamparties messy or just wet?

Wet

Getting wet slowly is an exciting experience that we and many of our readers enjoy often. There are various levels of wet:

  1. Damp
  2. Moist
  3. Soggy
  4. Soaked
  5. Squidgy
  6. Drenched
  7. Dripping
  8. Immersed

It is huge fun to splash your friends. You'll be only get partially wet for a while. The thrill comes when your clothes get wetter over time.
