Consider a side trip to Malaysia. They have attitude to swimwear and being a more affluent country most of the locals wear the genuine stuff not the fake designer sportswear popular in Thailand.
Leave your shorts, boxers & t shirts at home and pack some proper swimwear. Jeans, trackies/sweatpants and perhaps some polo/rugby shirts.
