It's been a dreadfully dry winter. The lack of hope of finding natural mud had led me to the hazardous practice of mountain hiking. I wouldn't normally go there, as mountains drain well and seldom get muddy. The trouble is that I'm often unfamiliar with the area. Yesterday I was planning a three or four hour hike in the North Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Misreading the terrain and a couple wrong turns led to it lasting six hours. I had plenty of water and electrolytes so I wasn't in any danger, but it was frustrating.
Oddly enough I wasn't as sore as I expected today, but I wanted to do something relaxing, so I dug out the back yard mud pit, watered it and refilled it and had a good long wallow. Then I pulled some weeds, hosed off and had a swim. At my age I don't usually swim in February, but it's been unusually warm. It's expected to get to 90°F this week.
After that it occurred to me that the Bermuda grass might no longer be dormant, so I decided to prime the groundwater in the lawn by using the sprinkler system. I then had to troubleshoot some problems which got me sprayed several times.
