Hello Zonie,

I'm glad you at least found a few puddles to romp around in. Where I live, we have not had any rain since Hurricane Helene. The weather has been generally sunny, warm and dry, though last week daytime temps mostly only reached the mid 60sF.

I don't mind falling in mud puddles when the temps are a bit cool--60s and provided not much wind. In fact, cooler air means chilly mud puddles which can actually be somewhat exhilarating as the comparatively cold, muddy water penetrates my jeans and shirt and goes into my shoes down to my toes. Slipping and slopping in the soft, cool mud, of course, adds to the thrill, charged with an electric jolt of adrenalin.

The cooler circumstance, however, quite naturally hastens my activity and I tend to exit sooner, choosing not to linger. But in order to even make the activity worthwhile at all, I will usually pack along several gallons of warm water, a couple of which I pour over my cold, wet and muddy clothes immediately following. This takes the chill off temporarily while allowing time to shed the wet muddy clothes and shoes and complete a quick field bath. I work a light lather from a bottle of warm, pre-mixed soapy water and finish with a warm rinse and towel dry. All this in the semi-private cover of places along a dirt trail featuring heavy undergrowth along the sides and perhaps trees on either side. It would not do to showcase this activity, in my opinion.

Anyway, until the next time, Happy Mudding!
