Spring seems to have been a very brief season. We went from winter to summer in a week. The previous Tuesday the maximum temperature in Phoenix was 65°F. Last Tuesday the maximum temperature in Phoenix was 99°F. With a short spring, I tried to get in all my spring cleaning in one day. Easter Sunday I hosed down my mud-caked gaiters and put away my winter gear. I think I know where there's likely to be some remnant mud this weekend, so I'll probably be able to survive hiking in this weather.

I had an appointment with the cardiologist this morning. I had the fastest ever EKG in my life. I think it was finished in about a minute flat. I noticed I had lost about 12 lbs. in six months. I was also alarmed by the decrease in my blood pressure. It was 128/58. I was a bit concerned I had gone too far in the other direction. Dr. Bergman assured me that anything above 40 was acceptable and that I was in no danger of fainting in the furnace room. He asked about any issues. I assured him that I hadn't picked up any rattlesnakes since my last visit.

I wish I could say I had made a major lifestyle change, but I'll credit it to the weather. Hiking while wet and muddy definitely stimulates the metabolism.
