mud as a shock absorber

Unfortunately the mud from the storms two weeks ago dried very quickly. I had a 3½ hour hike on dry ground on the west segment of Reach 11 last Sunday and a four hour hike on the east segment yesterday. I was trying to get into better condition after the long hot summer. The trouble was after both hikes my feet were very sore. I think I need mud as a shock absorber. My feet don't generally feel this sore after a mud hike. Well the long range forecast calls for a chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday.
