Depends on how hot the weather is, what there is to hike through, and who I'm with. Usually jeans, button-fly preferably, with some type of t-shirt. Long-sleeve if cooler, short if hot. When weather is hotter, I go commando. If in a spot where you don't want to be spotted, dark colors (esp. green or brown) blend in best, definitely no red, white or bright yellow. Add a ball cap when a chance of rain is present.....
If in good, smooth mud, on a stinkin' hot day, and getting out of the clothes is on the schedule (depending on the site and who I'm with), I switch to things you can get out of (and back into) easily when the time comes. Boots are nice, and dont' get sucked off, but are more work to get into and out of, so plan accordingly.
