Kayne, interest in rodeo events starts very young - like five or six. sometimes even younger. Same with most other sports like football, baseball, basketball, soccer, ice skating or whatever.

Usually kids interested in rodeo events have parents involved in rodeo or live on ranches. They have been riding horses since they could walk, sometimes even before. Young children opften compete in mutton riding at rodeos where they are put on sheep and the sheep are released from a chute and start bucking. All in training for the future when they might become bull or bronc riders. They learn to use a lariat very early and practice roping a plastic steer head mounted on a bale of hay and then graduate to roping small calves and steers and anything that moves. Girls usually compete in barrel racing, and there are some very young ones out there competing. Kids are put on a barrel suspended on ropes to simulate a bucking animal. Some places even have mechanical bulls like are used in bars or seen at fairs to train on. They attend camps and training sessions like that in the video. They take their sport very seriously and those who are really good at it can make a lot of money. And there are women who compete in all the rodeo events and there are all female rodeos.

Definitely a very dangerous sport. Have a friend, actually met here on WW, who comes from a cowboy family and was severely injured bull riding with many injuries similar to yours, plus a brain injury. Obviously he can no longer compete but still loves rodeo and has relatives on ranches out west. But interest and training start very young.
