To test the water as they say for my first swim in a hotel pool, tracksuit bottoms and a polo shirt or shorts (not swim shorts) and a long sleeve 1/4 zip top. After that I may go for sweatpants, jeans and/or a hoodie. Anywhere that is not a swimming pool will require shoes.
For colours I tend to go with grey, blue or black. I avoid anything black made of cotton as it tends to turn brown in pool chemicals and avoid red as it can run an spoil other clothes.
