I think I always tried to plan which clothes to get wet in.
I remember when I got my first 2 pairs of new shrink-to-fit Levi’s 501’s in 1972. I was 15, and my dad finally got a good job after being unemployed for a couple of years. I no longer had to wear hand-me-downs and discount store clothes. It didn’t occur to me to shrink them by wearing them wet, so we washed them first. The next day I put them on with a white t-shirt and staged a water fight with my siblings. I was amazed at how thick and heavy they became compared to wet faded jeans. I loved how they dyed my white briefs and the bottom of my shirt blue. They were overloaded with dye back then.
