Pumpkin Regatta

This week is the Damariscotta Pumpkin Festival. Lots of activities throughout the week at various places including pumpkin smashing where you place a pumpkin on a catapult and launch it into the air to see how far it will go. Festivities end Monday, October 9th at 9am with the pumpkin regatta. Entrants hollow out large pumpkins to create "boats" and competitors have to race around a buoy or series of buoys without capsizing. Costumes are encouraged. Some of the competitors use kayak paddles and then there are classes for motorized pumpkins.
Have attended this event in the past and it's a hoot! Will not be going this year due to early start time and it's a bit of a drive, but starting time varies from year to year due to the tide. Videos can be found by googling Damariscotta Pumpkin Regatta.
