Don't let people put you off what you are swimming in. Lots of people that spend lots of time in the saa around the UK have on a wetsuit. What you have on is sort of your light weight wetsuit. Sometimes I like going in the sea in my trackys this is my improvised wetsuit and I love how it feels in the water.

I don't think swimming in the dark in unknown water is a good idea unless you are with others.
