It has been bone dry where I live for several weeks now, but with Hurricane Helene coming ashore over the Florida panhandle and making a bee line north through Georgia into Tennesee and perhaps onward up into Arkansas or Missouri, we can look for a good soaking over the next few days. In fact, the outer bands of the storm have been pushing steadily northward since yesterday bringing much needed rain to our area.
In anticipation thereof, I got out on the trail the other day with a small spade to widen the spot where one of my favorite mud puddles forms when filled with rainwater. I also loosened a bit of dirt at the bottom in hopes of making a nice soft, slippery and sloppy bottom. I can't wait for a nice day to follow the storm when I can go out in my Lee Riders Blue Jeans, blue pocket tee shirt and shiny Bass Keenan moc toe shoes to step in it, slip and fall in.
