Wet Movie Reviews

We hope to bring you more wet movie reviews in time, most are from Jamiewet in Canada. A lot depends on what you contribute. So here here is your chance to become a famous wet movie critic.
Beautiful Thing Beautiful Thing
Video or DVD available from Amazon.co.uk
  Also available as a book

The story of first love, one summer, on a council estate in London, England. Two teenage guys fall in love and jump into a lake to fetch a football. Short wet scene, but also a good movie.

A grim, gritty South London housing estate makes an unlikley setting for a romantic fairy-tale, but Hetti MacDonald's teenage love story all but brings it off. Adapted by screenwriter Jonathan Harvey from his own stage play, Beautiful Thing tells how teenage loner Jamie falls for next-door neighbour Ste, one of the tough kids who bullies him at school. Amazingly, he finds his feelings reciprocated, and the two progress to a tender, tentative affair.

Sidestepping conventional notions of working-class homophobia, the film succeeds in presenting its central relationship not as anything startlingly different, but simply as a teenage romance, with all the joy and heartbreak it implies, that happens to be between two 15-year-old guys.

Problems of brutality and deprivation are acknowledged but never allowed to dominate, and under the influence of love even the harsh walkways and terraces of the estate take on a sunlit glow.

Billionaire Boys

Billionare Boys Club was a made for tv program almost a decade ago. It was about the riches of the late eighties. We have seen it on VHS, but think that it was only in limited distribution. Three guys jump in a pool in their white tennis clothes.

Jesse loves to swim with the orca whales. He always swims fully clothed.

Free WillyFree Willy

A brilliant classic that can be watched over and over. It has many beautiful wet scenes with several people. Follow a young foster boy who goes to great lengths to get his befriended whale freed from captivity. He longs to see his companion swin in the deep, blue and wild ocean with his friends once again. A compassionate masterpiece, full of fun and frollicks, but gripping to the end. Get the tissues out.

This popular film also had a happy real-life ending: Keiko the whale (who plays Willy) recovered from failing health and was gradually trained to survive outside of captivity.

coverFree Willy 2

You may recall that Willy jumped the aquarium fence, so to speak, at the end of that 1993 family film, and regrouped in open seas with the pod from which he had been cruelly snatched. This 1995 sequel again finds Willy in trouble at the hands of the civilised world, this time due to an oil slick and explosion that may very well kill him or cause him to be locked away again. Meanwhile, Richter's growing character has other problems, including a troublesome half-brother and the rumblings of puppy love. One way in which this film is superior to its predecessor is a greater range of visual opportunities, namely shooting out on the ocean instead of in the whale hero's old tank.

cover Free Willy 3

Guess who's back in the water? Willy the whale returns with his favorite companion, Jason James Richter, now a 17-year-old aboard an ocean research vessel. This time, they're out to stop a sea captain from illegally killing orca whales in the Pacific Northwest. On their side is the fisherman's 10-year-old boy, Max.

There are plenty of wet scenes throughout the movie. One of the best is where Jesse shows Max the whales. They both jump in fully clothed to ride on the orca whales. Filmed on location in British Columbia, near the towns of Squamish and British Beach, the scenery is simply awesome. Great follow up to the equally wet Free Willy 1 and 2 movies.

North Shore (1987)

HELP! We need photos from this movie. Please contact us if you have any.

The story of first love, one summer, a surfer on Hawaii trying to win the big contest but discovers himself instead. Lots of wet scenes. Probably will only have limited copies of it on the shelves. It lasted only two weeks in Canada in theaters when it was originally released.

It's the one about the kid from Arizona (Matt Adler), who's surfed only on artificial waves in that landlocked state, coming out to spend his last free summer hitting the serious water of Hawaii. He falls in with a mystical surf guru (Gregory Harrison), one of those surf-Zen masters obsessed with the cosmic significance of hanging ten, but he's also tempted by the flashier stunts of the younger surf crowd. Oh, and the Arizona kid also gets romantic with the prettiest girl on Oahu (Nia Peeples), which precipitates trouble with her resentful native family.

Trivia about North Shore:

Laird Hamilton (Burkhart), Gerry Lopez (Vince Mokaloka), Mark Occoluppo (Occie), and Alex Rogers (Robbie Page) are among the main cast who were real-life pro-surfers.

As seen on the most recent DVD release of the film, originally the role of Kiani was played by another actress. However when she didn't work out they brought in Nia Peeples to re-shoot all her scenes. The film's original ending can be seen in the special features of the DVD.

Stand by me DVD
Stand By Me
Video or DVD available from Amazon.co.uk

Critically acclaimed story set in 1959, which tells of four friends who go on a overnight camping trip to find a missing teenager's body, but ultimately find out a lot about themselves. Based on a short story by Stephen King.

A sleeper hit when released in 1986, Stand by Me is based on Stephen King's novella "The Body" (from the book Different Seasons); but it's more about the joys and pains of boyhood friendship than a morbid fascination with corpses.

It's about four boys aged 12 and 13 (Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell) who take an overnight hike through the woods near their Oregon town to find the body of a boy who's been missing for days.

Their journey includes a variety of scary adventures (including a ferocious junkyard dog, a swamp full of leeches and a treacherous leap from a train trestle), but it's also a time for personal revelations, quiet interludes and the raucous comradeship of best friends.

The movie indulges an overabundance of anachronistic profanity and a kind of idealistic, golden-toned nostalgia (it's told in flashback as a story written by Wheaton's character as an adult, played by Richard Dreyfuss). But it's delightfully entertaining from start to finish, thanks to the rapport among its young cast members and the timeless, universal themes of friendship, family and the building of character and self-esteem.

Stand By Me is one of those rare gems of cinema which has a broad appeal to men of all ages, as it is a timeless piece of nostalgia and is credible and genuine throughout.

Although all of the boys are utter cliches (the tough wiseguy who leads the group, the dumb fat one whose always scared etc.) the remarkable performances save the film, with River Phoenix in particular making an impression as tough but decent Chris, and Wil Wheaton, who plays the sensitive Gordie (the principal character of the film), is equally impressive.

The Challenge in Wet T-shirt

The Challenge

In their newest direct-to-video, Mary-Kate and Ashley embark on a Survivor-style adventure in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Estranged teen sisters who live on opposite sides of the country are brought together as teammates in the TV show, "The Challenge", much to their surprise.

In order to win the grand prize - college scholarships - they'll need to reconcile their differences, work together, and keep their romances a secret from the producers all at the same time.

Lots of wet scenes and a ton of beans get poured over the guys and girls as well.

Scout Toujours (A Scout Forever)

1985-France

An aging mamma's boy becomes the replacement leader of a rowdy group of teenage boy scouts who make his life miserable. Nothing more than a typical, formulaic comedy about a bumbling Boy Scout troop leader (director Gerard Jugnot), this story features the inept counselor facing off with a wild group of scouts in the middle of a camping trip. The Scoutmaster also has to parry a gay colleague who is out to question his sexual preferences, and there are even more disasters waiting to happen. It is enough to make anyone turn in their badge. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

A voir absolument!
